In a devastating development, conservative activist and Turning Point USA co-founder Charlie Kirk, aged 31, was fatally shot on Wednesday, September 10, 2025, while speaking at Utah Valley University. The incident took place during the first leg of his “American Comeback Tour,” at an outdoor event titled “Prove Me Wrong.” Approximately 3,000 people were in attendance.
The shot came from a nearby rooftop, striking Mr. Kirk in the neck. He was immediately rushed to Timpanogos Regional Hospital where mortality was declared later in the day. Authorities searched the area and have recovered the firearm believed to have been used: a high-powered bolt-action rifle.
Utah Governor Spencer Cox has called the killing a “political assassination.” Working with state and federal law enforcement, including the FBI, officials say that they will pursue the death penalty. A “person of interest” has been identified, and investigators have released photos and surveillance video.
The FBI has issued a reward of up to $100,000 for information leading to the arrest of whoever is responsible.
Mr. Kirk was widely known for his activism in conservative youth movements, campus organizing, media commentary, and as a vocal ally of former President Donald Trump. His murder has prompted strong bipartisan condemnation, raising serious concerns about political violence, public safety at political events, and national discourse.
Turning Point USA released a statement confirming his death, asking for privacy and prayers for his wife, Erika Frantzve, and their two children.
Law enforcement urges anyone with information—video, photos, or other evidence—to contact the FBI Salt Lake City Field Office or Utah DPS tip lines. The investigation remains active, with resources committed at state and federal levels.
