GRAMMY-nominated, 22x platinum rock band Skillet has announced their departure from Atlantic Records after an incredible 20-year partnership. The band, known for their high-energy performances and chart-topping hits, is set to embark on a new chapter in their illustrious career.
Frontman John Cooper shared the news in an exclusive interview with Billboard, revealing that Skillet will be releasing new music through their own imprint, Hear It Loud. This move marks a significant step for the band as they take full creative control of their music and future projects.
“We’ve had an amazing journey with Atlantic Records, and we’re grateful for all the support and opportunities they’ve provided us over the years,” said Cooper. “However, we feel it’s time to take a new direction and explore the freedom of being independent. This change allows us to make quicker decisions and stay more connected with our fans.”
Skillet’s first release under Hear It Loud will be their highly anticipated single, “Unpopular,” set to drop on August 9. This will be followed by a 10-track album titled Revolution, slated for release on November 1. Fans can expect the same powerful, anthemic sound that has defined Skillet’s music, with a fresh and innovative twist.
“After this long, we’ve learned enough about our audience to know what they want to hear,” Cooper added. “We have a pretty good handle on that now, so it’s time for us to be pushed out of the nest, or maybe jump out of the nest.”
The band is excited about the future and looks forward to continuing their legacy of inspiring and uplifting music. Stay tuned for more updates and announcements from Skillet as they embark on this new journey.
