Oak Cliff Bible Fellowship (OCBF) announces that Dr. Tony Evans, the founding and senior pastor, is stepping down from his pastoral duties after 48 years of dedicated service. Dr. Evans, a renowned evangelical leader, has been a pillar of the OCBF community since its inception in 1976.
Dr. Evans founded Oak Cliff Bible Fellowship with just 10 members in his home. Under his leadership, the church has grown to over 10,000 congregants and established more than 100 ministries. Dr. Evans is also known for his radio program, “The Alternative with Dr. Tony Evans,” which airs on over 1,000 stations worldwide. He has previously served as the chaplain for both the Dallas Cowboys and the Dallas Mavericks.
In a heartfelt statement to the congregation, Dr. Evans shared, “The foundation of our ministry has always been our commitment to the Word of God as the absolute supreme standard of truth to which we are to conform our lives. When we fall short of that standard due to sin, we are required to repent and restore our relationship with God. A number of years ago, I fell short of that standard. I am, therefore, required to apply the same biblical standard of repentance and restoration to myself that I have applied to others.”
The decision for Dr. Evans to step down was made after extensive prayer and multiple meetings with the church elders. The elder board is committed to leading the church in line with the teachings of the scriptures and maintaining the integrity of the church.
Pastor Bobby Gibson and the church elders will provide more information regarding interim leadership and the next steps for the future of Oak Cliff Bible Fellowship.
