Ezekiel Onyedikachukwu, widely known as Ezee Tee, the CEO of EeZee Conceptz Global and former manager of gospel artist Mercy Chinwo, has been charged with fraud. The Federal High Court in Lagos issued an arrest warrant for him on January 16, 2025, following a motion by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) that alleged he diverted $345,000 in royalties intended for Chinwo and lacked transparency regarding her earnings from digital platforms and events.
The EFCC’s affidavit, submitted by investigator Michael Idoko, detailed a petition from Chinwo against her former manager. The gospel singer accused Ezee Tee of receiving royalties without proper disclosure and failing to remit her share. This revelation has raised serious concerns within the gospel music community about financial integrity and artist management practices.
Ezee Tee has been a prominent figure in the gospel music scene, known for his dedication to nurturing talent and expanding the reach of gospel music. His label, EeZee Conceptz Global, has produced several successful artists and songs, including Mercy Chinwo’s hit “Excess Love.” However, this recent legal issue casts a shadow over his reputation and raises questions about the management practices within his organization.
The charges against Ezee Tee highlight a growing concern about transparency in the music industry, particularly regarding financial dealings between artists and their management teams. Artists often rely heavily on their managers for financial guidance and support, making it crucial for managers to maintain integrity and transparency in their dealings.
As this case unfolds, it may prompt other artists to scrutinize their financial arrangements with managers and labels. The outcome could lead to broader discussions about accountability in the music industry and the need for clearer contracts that protect artists’ rights.
The EFCC’s involvement signals a serious approach to tackling financial crimes within Nigeria’s entertainment sector. If found guilty, Ezee Tee could face significant legal repercussions that may impact not only his career but also the operations of EeZee Conceptz Global.
Mercy Chinwo’s allegations have sparked conversations among her fans and fellow artists about the importance of safeguarding one’s interests in a highly competitive industry. As more details emerge from this case, it will be essential for stakeholders in the gospel music community to advocate for better practices that ensure fair treatment and compensation for artists.
