Nigerian Gospel Artists Moses Bliss and Mercy Chinwo Condemn Kwara Church Attack, Affirm Resilience of the Church

Award-winning Nigerian gospel ministers Moses Bliss and Mercy Chinwo have broken their silence following the horrific armed attack on Christ Apostolic Church (CAC) Oke Isegun in Eruku, Ekiti Local Government Area of Kwara State, where gunmen killed at least two worshippers and abducted the pastor and several others during a Tuesday evening service.

The attack, which occurred on November 18 while the service was being live-streamed, sent shockwaves across Nigeria. Police confirmed that bandits opened fire on the congregation, shot the pastor, killed two people on the spot (with additional bodies later recovered), injured a vigilante member, and marched several worshippers into the bush. The incident is the latest in a string of violent assaults on places of worship and rural communities, deepening national grief and calls for urgent security intervention.

Mercy Chinwo, known for chart-topping songs including “Excess Love,” shared a heartfelt statement on Instagram:

“The attack on worshippers in Kwara is evil, unacceptable, and heartbreaking💔.

No one should ever fear for their life in the house of God.

I stand with every family and church affected, and I pray for God’s comfort and healing.

But let it be known: the Church of Jesus Christ cannot be intimidated.

Violence will not silence our worship. Darkness will not overcome His light.

Psalm 34:18 🤍

Mercy Chinwo Blessed”

In a separate post that has since gone viral, Moses Bliss invoked divine intervention with a powerful video captioned “Let God arise!” – echoing Psalm 68:1 and signalling an unwavering declaration that God will scatter every enemy of His people. The Spotlite Records founder accompanied the post with solemn prayer for the victims, the abducted, and the peace of Nigeria, urging believers to remain steadfast in faith.

Both artists, whose ministries have touched millions across Africa and beyond, used their platforms to comfort grieving families while reaffirming that the Nigerian Church remains unshakeable. Their responses have sparked an outpouring of solidarity from fans and fellow ministers, with thousands sharing prayers and calls for justice under hashtags #PrayForKwara and #TheChurchWillPrevail.

The attack has intensified demands for stronger protection of religious communities and swift rescue operations for those still in captivity.
