Mexican-American rapper, writer, and producer WHATUPRG has unveiled his latest single, “Z99,” a groundbreaking track that seamlessly blends traditional Mexican corrido elements with contemporary sounds. The song has rapidly gained viral traction across Mexico and Latin America, resonating with audiences through its innovative fusion and uplifting message.
The inspiration for “Z99” stems from WHATUPRG’s transformative trip to Guatemala with the non-profit organization International Justice Mission. During this journey, he engaged with vulnerable communities affected by violence, drawing profound insights from survivors of trafficking. Grounded in the biblical passage Zechariah 9:9, the song encapsulates themes of resilience, hope, and redemption, reflecting the artist’s personal experiences and spiritual journey.
In a concerted effort to connect with his Latin heritage and audience, WHATUPRG embarked on a promotional tour in Mexico City. This tour included press engagements with prominent media outlets such as TV Azteca, MVS, Grupo 7, and CBN, among others. Additionally, he hosted an exclusive pop-up event that featured a live performance of “Z99,” a Q&A session, and a meet-and-greet with approximately 100 enthusiastic fans. Reflecting on the experience, WHATUPRG expressed, “Meeting all the fans and people who support us here has been a dream come true. The teaser for the track garnered an impressive 1 million views within a week, amplifying anticipation and excitement for the release.
