The Federal Government of Nigeria has officially granted permission for the construction of a private airstrip at Canaanland, the headquarters of Living Faith Church Worldwide, founded by Bishop David Oyedepo. This significant development was confirmed by the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo.
The approval comes as part of the government’s commitment to enhance transportation infrastructure and facilitate easier access for worshippers and visitors to Canaanland, especially during large church events. Bishop Oyedepo announced the news during a special thanksgiving service celebrating his 70th birthday, expressing gratitude for the federal support that will allow direct flights to and from the church premises.
“This airstrip will not only streamline travel for myself but also provide a designated area for church members who own aircraft,” said Bishop Oyedepo. “We are operating in the center of God’s plan, and this development exemplifies that commitment.”
Minister Keyamo elaborated on the approval process, stating that it adheres to existing laws which permit individuals to establish private airstrips provided they meet specific criteria. “The approval process included thorough evaluations and environmental assessments to ensure safety and suitability for aircraft operations,” he explained. “We assessed technical requirements, including ground strength for a runway and necessary navigational equipment.”
The establishment of this airstrip is expected to significantly improve logistics for church activities and enhance the overall experience for attendees traveling from various locations.
Bishop Oyedepo emphasized the importance of aligning with God’s purpose in life, encouraging youth to pursue their callings as exemplified by graduates from Covenant University who have found success in aviation.
This initiative marks a notable step forward in private aviation within Nigeria, as such facilities are relatively uncommon. The government remains committed to supporting developments that foster growth and accessibility in various sectors.
