Mike Aremu Known as King Mike Aremu Together with Victor Thompson, has released a new song called Totori – The Name of Jesus, which is already a big success.
The Pidgin English term “Totori” implies to tingle, stimulate, or excite. Mike declares, “That is what the name Jesus does to me.” The song is a mid-tempo blend of jazz and afrobeat with Mike’s distinctive vocal and tenor sax sound. Victor Thompson, the “This Year” crooner, graced the new song with his powerful voice.
King Mike himself created Totori with assistance from Michael Oyo, White Block, and Tbabz. The song was mixed and mastered by Lifted Omlamb at the Mixsurgery Sound Lab in the UK. Other contributors include Segzmonte on guitar and Dolapo Ikusika on bass.
The ability of Mike Aremu to draw from traditional Nigerian sounds to produce sounds that symbolize both his creative enthusiasm and his culture puts him apart from other world-class saxophone players whose music transcends class, age, and race.
In September 1999, he released his debut album Dance, followed by No Shaking (both under Kennis Music). Since then, he has recorded a number of albums and songs that have topped the charts, including Unveiled, Coat of Many Colours, and Sound of the Spirit, to name just a few.
